Enrichment

Enrichment from September 2017

The Enrichment session has changed slightly this year. Instead of one 6 week block per term, we have moved to a permanent Enrichment slot on Thursdays from 14.50 until 15.40. Each year group works with a departmental ‘team’ for the full 6 weeks, doing a variety of activities and then rotate to another team for the next block. The only year group this does not apply to is Year 11, who are working with the English department every week in order to boost their GCSE chances in this critical core subject. The departmental teams are:

Team 1 = Maths

Team 2 = Creative & Visual Arts

Team 3 = English

Team 4 = Humanities

Team 5 = Science

Team 6 = Technology/ICT & PE

Team 7 = Modern Foreign Languages, Business & Health & Social Care

Each team is responsible for one year group per 6 week block and they are roughly equal in numbers of staff. The rotations look like this:

We surveyed the students to see what sort of activities they would like to experience and departmental teams have listened to their wishes and responded accordingly, by running the following activities so far this year:

Team 1 (Maths) split Year 7 into 3 groups to run spaghetti & marsh-mallow tower construction, number-based games and origami.

Team 2 (CVA) worked with Year 8 towards a showcase of music, dance, drama and art.

Team 4 (Humanities) split Year 9 into 3 groups to run mindfulness, board games and lawn games.

Team 5 (Science) used the time to run extension activities with Year 10 that they are not normally able to commit time to during lessons.

Team 6 (PE/Tech/ICT) split the time with Years 12/13 into 2, with 3 weeks of inter-house sports competition and 3 weeks of student cookery.

The activities that each team offers may alter to suit the age group they are working with, but we hope all students will enjoy a variety of activities in the more relaxed setting of Enrichment.
